Queen Bee Salon & Spa FAQ's
We understand that you have questions, and trust me we have heard everything. There are no silly questions, and we want you to come to your appointment fully aware and reassured. If we have not answered what you need to know or you feel more comfortable talking to somebody one-on-one, our friendly Bee Keepers are ready to take your call. We have a team of very professional technicians at Queen Bee, and we take what we do seriously. So let’s not beat around the bush …. here are the basics!
I’ve tried waxing my back and chest but those areas always break out with little red and white angry spots. What can I do to prevent this from happening?
I’m really paranoid about getting a…um…you know…stiffy during my wax. What happens if I do?
What’s up with male bikini waxing? I manscape my nether regions, but I’m wondering what’s involved in the BroZilian.
I’ve got lots of small patches of hair on my body that bother me. Can I book an appointment just for those?
This page is intended to ease the worries of any of you blokes who are a bit nervous about waxing. We want you to know that the service(s) you’re interested in are perfectly safe and normal. For years, men have been removing body hair for a number of reasons such as athletics, a desire to feel sexier, etc. In fact, male waxing has become hugely popular in many salons and spas. From drill sergeants to famous athletes, dads, and A-list actors, more and more chaps are choosing to wax over any other hair removal method. Less irritating than shaving and more attractive than buzzing down, waxing also lasts a heck of a lot longer, cutting down on your daily hair removal regimen.
Still have questions? We’ve answered some of the most common ones here:
I’ve tried waxing my back and chest but those areas always break out with little red and white angry spots. What can I do to prevent this from happening?
Unfortunately this is quite common, especially on men with sensitive skin or coarse hair and deep roots. Many men only break out the first couple of times they wax. Once a person’s skin gets used to regular exfoliation and hair removal, breakouts often stop. We also take many precautions to prevent breakouts: After a wax, we treat the skin with antiseptic and antibacterial products. After this, we apply an additional solution to soothe irritation. We also recommend taking home a bottle of our Anti-Bac Attack and Buzz Off Bumps to further prevent these little breakouts from occurring.
We’re all grown ups and professionals at Queen Bee (and we expect our clients to act like adults as well). We know erections can happen due to nerves. Don’t sweat it! Truthfully, we’re not going to acknowledge it anyway.
What’s up with male bikini waxing? I manscape my nether regions, but I’m wondering what’s involved in the BroZilian.
There are many reasons men, both straight and gay, choose to wax their bits. Some men have partners who prefer it, others like to feel clean, and many men who are athletic need those areas cleaned up for hygiene and safety reasons. We look at male bikini waxing the same way we view female bikini waxing: that it’s a perfectly acceptable form of grooming. Yes, there might be some discomfort associated with it. See How to Prepare (below) and follow our instructions for minimizing pain. If you’re nervous, ease yourself into male bikini waxing slowly by starting with a Butt Reynolds or Crack Daddy. It’s your body, you’re the customer, and we will do everything we can to make it a good experience! Our Bum-Ball Bees are all well trained and have a loyal male client following.
- Please shower before your appointment. We won’t spell it out… you catch our drift.
- Hair must be a quarter of an inch (about 3-4 weeks of growth) to adhere correctly to the wax. This is particularly important for the scrotum area where hair can sometimes grow more slowly. If hair’s too short, we can’t wax that area.
- Resist the urge to shave between sessions. Shaving chafes the skin and creates sharper, coarser hair!
- Gently exfoliate your bikini line the night before your wax. Exfoliating the skin in this area will keep ingrown hairs at bay. It’s a good idea to make a habit of this, especially if you’re prone to ingrowns.
- Know that it gets better. We get that first timers don’t know what to expect. My advice is to acknowledge that the first one will be the most uncomfortable, especially if you’ve been shaving prior to it. However, it doesn’t have to be the worst thing you’ve ever done. Most of the time, people leave our room pleasantly relieved that the wax wasn’t nearly as bad as they expected. Every wax after the first one gets easier, especially when your hair starts growing in finer and we weaken that horrid follicle!
- Medicate if you must. if you’re concerned about the potential for pain, take a couple of advil 20 minutes before your appointment. Some clients feel this takes the edge off.
Never. Your facial hair is usually a lot more coarse and the skin more sensitive. When a more coarse hair is removed from its base, it could cause unnecessary irritation. If your facial hair bothers you, talk to your doctor about laser hair removal.
Breathe easy; we have you! We apply a “little” hard wax to a small stick and insert a couple of millimeters into each nostril. When it softens we remove. It doesn’t hurt. We want to reiterate that we do not go too far into the nostrils. You NEED HAIR in your nose for protection, but let’s also discuss the benefits to nose waxing: easier breathing through the passages (we have heard it helps with snoring), general confidence and an ability to select finer wines and cheeses!
Absolutely. It is our pleasure to take care of that for you. We use hard or soft wax for this area.
It’s my very first facial. Which service should I choose?
Should I shave right before my facial?
I have oily skin and suffer from breakouts. Will a facial help this?
My teenager has gotten spotty and picks at his skin. He won’t listen to me! What do I do?
I’ve hit midlife and my skin is getting dryer, more sensitive… and what’s up with these wrinkles? Help!
I have ethnic skin and I scar and hyperpigment very easily. I’m worried about getting a facial as the last round of extractions I had were very aggressive and left me with keloids and darker patches of skin. Does this mean I can’t get facials?
I would love a peel or something more aggressive to get rid of what I consider dull looking skin. I need you to bring back my glow! What do you recommend?
We recommend our BeeSpoke Bloke Custom Facial. During this personalized facial, we will ascertain what your needs are and create a customized treatment. Please note: If you have a big event coming up and have never had a facial before, we don’t recommend getting one a day or two before the event. It would be rotten luck if you had a reaction to a product, so get your first facial two to three months before a special occasion, and if you’re considering a peel, come in for a patch test first.
Please don’t. If you are having a morning facial, feel free to shave before bed, and if you are having an evening facial, we are happy for you to shave first thing in the morning. Remember, shaving is a form of exfoliation and we wouldn’t want to irritate your skin further.
In a word, yes. For oily, breakout-prone skin, we use products that clean and slough off excess oil and dead skin cells. After cleansing and a light scrub, gentle extractions are performed. Following extractions, your aesthetician will choose an appropriate mask for your skin, then tone and moisturize with an oil-free moisturizer. We may also discuss your lifestyle and recommend certain changes to help combat excess oil and acne.
Recommended Facials: BeeSpoke Bloke (acne), Pumpkin Peel, Teen Facial
Hormonal changes combined with a poor diet, stress, lack of sleep and other environmental factors can wreak havoc on the skin. Lifestyle changes can go a long way to improve the skin, especially alongside regular facials. Before you consider antibiotics or prescription acne drugs, come in and let us look at your teen’s skin.
Recommended Facials: Teen Facial, Pumpkin Peel
I’ve hit midlife and my skin is getting dryer, more sensitive… and what’s up with these wrinkles? Help!
Skin ages prematurely due to many factors. Overexposure to the sun, alcohol, tobacco, and stress can all take a toll on your skin’s elasticity and vibrancy. We cannot promise you miracles after your first facial, but we can guarantee results with consistent care and adherence to our recommended routine. To combat the various signs of aging, we recommend a more complex and focused facial.
Recommended Facials: Epic Enzyme Facial, 40 is the new 30
I have ethnic skin and I scar and hyperpigment very easily. I’m worried about getting a facial as the last round of extractions I had were very aggressive and left me with keloids and darker patches of skin. Does this mean I can’t get facials?
You can absolutely still get facials. Experienced estheticians know that darker skin types are more prone to scarring and hyper-pigmentation, and at Queen Bee we know our limitations. You can receive gentle extractions, however we will never force a blackhead out of your skin, and we will always use professional products to prepare and soften the skin before extractions. Count your blessings – darker skin is less likely to age prematurely. Bonus!
Recommended Facials: BeeSpoke, Pumpkin Peel
I would love a peel or something more aggressive to get rid of what I consider dull looking skin. I need you to bring back my glow! What do you recommend?
We have several options to choose from at Queen Bee. However, we do not offer medical grade peels at this time. After analyzing your skin, we will select a peel that will work best for you. This could be a series of Sensa or our famous Epic Enzyme Peel at five or ten percent. We also stock Epicuren’s consumer strength peels in our shops, so you can continue the treatment at home.

We will NEVER up-sell you during your facial or force products on you afterward. If, during a facial, you would like to add-on or upgrade your service, please talk to your Facial Bee directly. Add-ons and upgrades include extra massage, concentrated serums, and hand treatments.

Because tanning beds and too much exposure to the sun causes skin cancer! The evidence is out there. This is a safer and better alternative.

About 7 to 10 days. You can keep your tan longer by AVOIDING long hot showers, Mineral Oil based lotions, excessive exfoliation, swimming in Chlorine bleach pools and, the beach (salt water acts as an exfoliant). Also people who work out a lot and shower more often will not keep their tans as LONG as most.
Get a DHA based lotion/extender lotion. Any lotion with DHA in it, when used about every other day, will help keep your tan longer. You should always wash your hands after applying the lotion. DHA will color the hands. Exfoliate gently and evenly (evenly is key) you never want to AVOID exfoliation but yes do it lightly. Avoiding it will cause patchiness.
When DHA (dihydroxyacetone ), a colorless 3-carbon sugar, is applied to the skin a chemical reaction with amino acids in the surface cells of the skin occurs. A browning or tanning effect is produced. My favorite analogy is when you bite an apple or a banana and let it sit on the counter. It browns due to oxidation this is also the same stuff in your spray tan BUT because of the way it is formulated it is a CHEMICAL therefore not able to be ORGANIC. A product has to be MORE than 70% organic to be known as organic. We use ORGANIC BASED Aloe Vera DHA that does not damage skin — it only affects the outermost cells of the epidermis – otherwise known as a NON-TRANSDERMAL application, which means it does not seep past the dermis of the skin. DHA carries fewer health risks than any other method for achieving a tanned appearance without sun exposure. DHA has been approved for sunless tanning by the FDA BUT is NOT approved in the mucous areas like EYES, LIPS, AND NOSE. Most people do not want to wear goggles or nose plugs, so it’s not uncommon for you to rarely use these items. You will need to leave the tan on your skin for a minimum of 8 hours, but 24 is desired. Again this applies to the apple and banana analogy, the longer it is out, the browner it gets. But everybody’s AMINO acids are different, so not everyone achieves the same color.
NO NO AND NO. You will still need to use SPF when out in the sun. A lot of people think you are brown so you are protected but that is NOT the case.
No, it has a very pleasant Cherry Almond scent that slowly goes away in about 1 to 2 hours.
No, but bronzer will transfer onto your sheets and clothing generally the first day so wear something dark and always loose fitting. If you are concerned about your bed either change your sheets or put down a towel.
Call us and let us know about the stain and we will help you out. A simple Lemon and sugar scrub will work. Just buy a lemon and mix it with some sugar and the lemon will lighten and the sugar will exfoliate.
You can cover your self in baby oil, leave on for 15min, and shower in a hot shower and exfoliate it off. This may not remove it ALL but it will remove most.
Yes, shower and exfoliate the day of and either go without lotion or use a water-based moisturizer. Good example Aveeno. Also stay away from Dove soap as it contains Lanolin which can block your tan from developing to its fullest.
Shave the day of using soap and water. Do not use shaving cream as again, it contains Lanolin. Also if you need to wax please try to wax about 1 to 2 days before your spray to avoid the spray from getting into your pores, which are freshly open.
Please consult a physician first, as many people who are allergic to spray tan bronzers usually have a reaction to Mica or some of the other listed ingredients, please ask for the ingredients and see if you are allergic to any.
Yes, and we recommend a water-based moisturizer before your spray such Aveeno. If your skin is too dry the solution may develop “patchy”.
Loose fitting, black clothing. Coming from work for your spray tan? Bring loose-fitting clothing to wear afterward.
Yes, we do. You can rinse after 3 hours. Great for people who don’t want to sleep in their airbrush tan or are in a hurry!
No. Your skin is compromised after this and will peel off.
We want to ensure that you get the best color and results and so as with waxing, we request that you come in for a test patch before you receive your first custom airbrush tan.
Absolutely! We are famous for our sorority spray tans at USC, LMU, UCLA and more.
