One of the first things people notice about me is my breezy, laidback vibe which puts them at ease; even when they are laying half-dressed next to a hot vat of wax! I attribute this characteristic to spending my childhood on Hawaii, where life is simpler and less stressful than here in Los Angeles. My love of nature and color from living in Hawaii drew me instantly to the beauty industry. I trained at Mudd Makeup Designery and then received my diploma in esthetics from the Maui Academy of Cosmetology.
I returned to live in Los Angeles around 2001 and took my first full-time job at spas in Venice and Hollywood. In 2011 I walked into a tiny little bungalow in Culver City called “Queen Bee Waxing.” I had heard that the waxers there were using a technique for Brazilian Bikini Waxes which was a lot more comfortable for clients and was changing the way people perceived hair removal. Jodi hired me immediately and once I was trained the Queen Bee way, I never looked back.
We have Plumerias planted in our Culver City Queen Bee garden and the hummingbirds and butterflies keep me in touch with nature. I want my clients to feel that way when they walk into my room. My favorite Pandora station to play during work is ”Bob Marley” and how can you be uptight when you hear that!
A few years ago my coworkers and I found an abandoned dog outside of Queen Bee in Culver City. I took him home to take care of him for the night and fortunately for me he decided to stay. So in my spare time, I take care of my gentle giant “Koa” and am also very involved in the dog rescue community. I’m not sure of who rescued who, but he’s a gentle giant who loves to play in kiddie pools and eat foreign objects I leave laying around at home.
