Waxing Apprentice Bee
“Kelleigh, you’re up,” my teacher said as she tossed me an apron and a white slip that only had two words scribbled on it… “back wax.” I walked into our little makeshift waxing room at school only to find a very, very large man staring back at me. “Oh dear God, play it cool, Kel,” I thought to myself. I welcomed him and introduced myself. “Hi,” he said. “My name is Grant. My wife and I are headed to Palm Springs and she told me I had to come here before we left,” he sheepishly explained.
I could tell he was a little nervous, a little embarrassed and probably would have chosen to be anywhere in the world other than in that room with me. I did what I do best and lightened the mood with humor and warmth. I smiled and replied as I put on my gloves, “Well Grant you came to the right place. Now get naked. Let’s get this bikini bod of yours ready for the Springs.” I waxed him for longer than I would like to admit. I may have even broken a sweat, but during the service, I noticed that there is an energy exchanged when working on someone and helping them feel good about themselves. It is unique and magical really. We all deserve to feel our best and when I think about it I have always enjoyed being a part of that rare energy and love- the one where I get to help people feel good inside and out.
While I like to think I have come a long way from my first waxing experience with Grant, I am beyond excited to continue my education at Queen Bee. To say I’m grateful to be the newest bee at the hive and train with Liz and Jodi- no doubt some of the best in the industry- would be an absolute understatement. Being that my background is in education, I truly believe there is always room to learn, grow and master your craft. Looking forward to continuing to do just that. When I’m not working, you can find me with my two little lights, Stella and Emma– momming so hard.
Hope to run into you all at the spa! Come see me for a laugh, good vibes, and exceptional service.
