If any of you are like me, you are wondering how on earth we got to June so quickly!!! Today for me was a hot and somewhat sweaty reminder that summer is officially here!
Looking in the mirror this evening also reminded me that I haven’t heeded my own advice in getting my skin summer ready. I’ve been carrying around a winter blanket of dead skin cells and lackluster skin for too long and it’s time to shed the old and reveal the new!! Time to pull out my blender and make some magic happen in the kitchen (and no, this does not involve Tequila).
It’s not hard, expensive or time consuming to put together a fantastic homemade facial mask that will turn your dull winter skin into a blooming marvel. Here is a recipe that I have been using for a long time that incorporates fresh organic strawberries and plain oatmeal:
- 4 to 6 ripe strawberries – mashed or blended.
- 1/4 cup of dry oatmeal to start – add more if you want a thicker paste. Grind it down in a coffee grinder or blend first.
- 2 slices of fresh, chilled English cucumber – for your eyes whilst your mask is on your face.
Mix the oatmeal into the strawberry mash until you have the desired consistency. (Too runny and it won’t stick to your face).
Wash your face as usual and then apply the mask all over your face. (You may feel a slight tingle as strawberries contain salicylic acid).
Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Pat your skin dry and apply a hydrating toner and then your favorite moisturizer. If you don’t have toner, splash cold water on your face to help close your pores. If you do this mask during the day, don’t forget to apply sunblock.
What can you expect from this mask?
Repairing & Healing (oatmeal contains 18 different amino acids that can be absorbed into the skin!)
Moisturizing. Oatmeal is a humectant which means it helps retain moisture in the skin.
Strawberries: Naturally contain salicylic acid (a alpha-hydroxy acid) which sloughs off the old dead cells to reveal new and more youthful skin.
Wondering what to do with those leftover strawberries and cucumber slices? I throw mine into a long cool glass of Pimms #1. How else is this hot sweaty British gal supposed to cool down!!!?
